What about the technology addiction? There is no clear definition yet. Having a phone in your hand is not a problem. The problem is its overuse. The risk level is about 4 hours a day or more. Such behavior can have negative effects on a person and his surroundings.
The most common manifestations:
- disruption of the daily rhythm
- neglecting personal hygiene, food, sleep
- fatigue, headaches, eye, back or other parts of the musculoskeletal system
- impaired orientation in time
But it has long-term effects. They seem more dangerous to me. For example:
- limitation of physical activity and subsequent obesity
- loss of contacts outside the online world, deterioration of communication skills and related conflicts in personal relationships
- neglecting school or work leading to poorer results
- association with anxiety disorders, ADHD, depression, suicidal thoughts, aggression and alcohol consumption
Do you recognize yourself or someone close to you in this? Probably not, but if so...
Where to go to the doctor?
- addiction counseling centers treating drug addicts or gamblers
- clinics of clinical or child psychiatrists and psychologists
Prevention and treatment:
- controlled use and reduction of time spent in the digital space
- digital addiction does not have a clear diagnosis, therefore there are no established recommendations for treatment
A few statistics on the use of technology in the Czech Republic:
- 75% adults on the Internet daily
- mobile has 99% people
- 72% people have mobile internet
Most common activities:
- reading news and searching for information
- online shopping
- social networks (approx. 68% adults)
- gaming (approx. 25% people)
